At least one resident suggested bringing Trader Joe’s to the city during the recent council listening sessions, and multiple residents expressed the need for better retail options in the city.
The latest initiative to bring a Trader Joe’s to Bowie is not the first.
Two Bowie residents created the “We Want Trader Joe's in Bowie, MD” Facebook page in 2012 after the Safeway grocery store in the Bowie Marketplace closed. The purpose of the page was to gather followers and show local support for Trader Joe’s. The page has been dormant for more than seven years.
The closest Trader Joe’s to Bowie is in Annapolis, and Trader Joe’s has no stores in Prince George’s County.
I can’t imagine a better fit for a Trader Joe’s than Bowie. Looking at all the other store locations and neighboring populations, it baffles me that there is not a store in Bowie Maryland. I’m not sure who is doing their research, but I would love to speak with them. I have scouted locations, researched demographics, and polled many of locals, we are begging and deserving of a Trader Joe’s in Bowie. PG county is often neglected by major developers and we have become use to and way to tolerant of these types of judgements. We are in an organic/healthy food desert. Looking at the population in our county, how I ask is this allow to continue! HOW! When I think of Riverdale/College Park getting a TJ’s. , when they already have a Yes organic market, Wholefoods and a Lidl on the same street! It’s not enough to say no to our request. I need answers, reasons or resolution. Please and thank you!
