The Cakery Reopens Under New Ownership

Freddy Trujillo, new owner of The Cakery in Bowie
Pastries are for sale once again in Bowie's Hilltop Plaza.  After being closed for two months, The Cakery is back in business.  According to the new owner, Freddy Trujillo, customers can expect to see the same treats that have been available at the store since the 1990s - cookies, cupcakes, danishes, croissants, tarts, pies, cakes and more.  Many items are available for immediate purchase, including pies and cakes, but Trujillo recommends ordering pies and cakes two or more days in advance.

The Cakery is open from 8am to 5pm, Tuesday through Friday, and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.  Trujillio may expand the hours in the future.

The Cakery is located on the back side of Hilltop Plaza, 6776 Race Track Rd, Bowie, MD 20715.

  1. Haven't been to the Cakery since 2014 and didn't realize it was under new Ownership. Nice people, however, thought the prices were high for the quality. Paid $4.25 for a medium sized piece of carrot cake and unfortunately wished I hadn't! It was very dry and not a whole lot of taste to it. Frosting was ok. Cakes in the display looked nice, but very pricey. I wish them success in their new business and hope they improve their carrot cake!!

  2. Buyer beware! While I had hoped to resolve this once the owner saw the quotes I received, he unfortunately opted not to respond. I ordered a two tier cake for my daughter's baby shower for her first born-to-be. Just two hours before the event, I went to pick up the cake and was told that the baker was home with her two sick dogs and couldn't bake the cake the day before. He tried to get someone to do a similar cake but was unable to complete it. Not only did he never try to contact me when he found out his employee was unable to make the cake, he tried to charge me nearly 2.5 times the $82 that the baker quoted me. It wasn't until I expressed my frustration that he lowered the price from $199 to $150. I informed him I had the quotes in the bakers handwriting and on his company's paperwork and later emailed the photos of the pages, but he has opted to not respond. I unfortunately was between a rock and a hard shell in that I was hours away from the shower and had no other option for what was supposed to be the centerpiece for her once in a lifetime event (you only get your first baby shower once). It is very disappointing that a local company would not honor the quote it provided.

I highly recommend anyone avoid Cakery unless you are open to being disappointed, taken advantage of, and lied to.

Separately, the cake was not designed how I ordered it and while the bottom tier was edible, the top tier was not. I am guessing it had to do with the fact it was someone other than the original baker that made and designed the cake.
