Severe Storms Roll Through the Bowie Area

Severe storms rolled through the Bowie area today. A tornado watch was in place early in the afternoon, and a tornado warning was issued for the area after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing tornadoes appeared on Doppler radar about 5.5 miles southeast of Bowie. The WTOP traffic team reported one lane blocked by standing water on Route 50 West at Route 197 after some very heavy rain fell in Bowie. The storms gave way to cooler and dryer air, and sun and clouds combined for some interesting photo ops at dusk.
