Severe Storm Causes Downed Trees and Power Outages

A cold front brought a severe storm to Bowie this afternoon. Several trees were knocked down, and many residents and businesses are without power. Some sections of town seem worse than others. The Somerset, Meadowbrook and Whitehall neighborhoods all seem hard hit. Power is still off at Hilltop Plaza, Bowie Plaza and Whitehall Plaza. I saw the poor guy at Crab Galley trying to save his inventory by loading it into his refrigerated truck. My son and I took a late night drive around town, and we did not see a single BGE truck.

The storm also caused WSSC to issue yet another water restriction for its customers after a pumping station in Montgomery County lost power.

We were in Waldorf when the storm first hit. We saw the thermometer in the car go from 100 degrees to 80 in about 10 minutes. The temperature went as low as 72 during our drive back to Bowie.

This is my son's favorite picture - taken at the construction site of the new PNC Bank at the corner of Stonybrook Drive and Route 450.

A pine tree fell on a car on Westmont Lane blocking the road. Residents worked together to free the car and make the road passable.

  1. It's the wild wild west out there at Route 450 and Race Track Rd and 450/Rt. 3. Traffic lights still out as of 6am 7/26. No one heeding the rule to treat intersections like a 4-way stop.

  2. They were talking about the 450/Rt 3 intersection on WTOP last night. The driving is bad enough when the lights are working.

  3. His own people He will protect, even come difficult times. Let's all serve God and keep His commandments of God, and pray always for His day of vengeance is nearer than we thought

  4. My people! there is no time to waste, because just like the time of Noah, the antidilvian people were warned greatly by Noah, to build arks, so they can save their own. But they were so adamant, until the heavens broke, and the deluge came upon them, unaware. They were engaged in the same sins of our days. They were serving their idols. So< brothers and sisters, let's ware the armor of God and pray for our redemption
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU! MAY GOD GIVE US HIS GRACE BY ENLISTING OUR NAMES, INSIDE HIS BOOK OF LIFE, FOR HIS NEW JERUSALEM
    THANKS
